Since the beginning of his career James had a passion for stretching the application of technology to improve incumbent market norms, a passion which has led to the creation of TQT.
He started his career in 2008 as an Equity Derivative Trader; in 2010 starting a Fintech company, applying the deeper liquidity pools derived from market-making trading flows to reduce the costs of execution in the fund management industry, savings which in turn were passed through to clients; the company now trades $100bn+ P/M.
Since 2012 he has focused on founding and investing at the formative stages in technology companies; Seed investments, all of which James has Led, include, SuperAwesome, a pioneer of the ‘kid-tech’ industry; James led the first external investment into the company in 2015 at a sub $5m valuation. The company now has annual revenues of c$100m and in 2020 the company sold a stake to software giant Microsoft, valuing the company in excess of £200m.
As well as Monese, the banking and money transfer business, used as an alternative to traditional banks. The mobile-only service provides accounts in 31 countries across Europe; and as of January 2020 has over 2 million customers. In 2019 Monese sold a stake to US Payments giant, PayPal, as part of a $60m financing.
In 2016 he also founded and led Simba Sleep, growing it to $50m+ ARR by March 2018; that year he then co-founded itch, the online Pet-care pharmaceutical subscription service; itch is backed by leading US Venture Capital firm, Accel Partners – an early investor in Facebook, Dropbox, Spotify etc.
James also serves as the Managing Partner of private investment office, YYX Capital.
